Detailed Information & Pictures re: Bears Seen 2017:[]

April 2017:[]

2017.04.18, & 2017.04.19:  Sow with 3 cubs (appeared to be yearlings - see below) observed on ice between Mount La Gorce & Dumpling Mountain

Week of 2017.04.20:   Bears observed between King Salmon & Brooks Camp

2017.04.20:  A few bears ventured on the ice at different times today.  One bear crossed from Dumpling Mountain to the largest island at the entrance to the north arm of Naknek Lake.  He had to walk around some holes in the ice to do it.  The sow with 3 cubs that appeared to be yearlings were not observed today.  (See Ranger Troy Hamon's later comment on 2017.04.20 on KNP&P facebook page below).

per Ranger Troy Hamon's 2017.04.20 08:29 am comment on KNP&P facebook page

Here is his 2017.04.20 08:29 am comment:  "While flying the maintenance crew out to open camp this week, we have seen 3 or 4 different bears along the lakeshore between King Salmon and Brooks Camp. But one party was not along shore...a sow with 3 cubs was out in the middle of the ice between Dumpling and LaGorce. They stayed there playing, nursing, sleeping all day Tuesday (04/18/2017) and all day yesterday (04/19/2017)...until the last flight. They were walking single file toward shore as I passed on the way to Brooks and had almost reached shore when I went back. I guess the ice party is over!"

Later on 2017.04.20 Ranger Troy Hamon commented on the KNP&P facebook page  - "They looked like yearlings (the 3 cubs with the sow on 2017.04.18 & 2017.04.19). Did not see them today, but a few other bears ventured on the ice at different times today. One bear crossed from Dumpling to the largest island at the entrance to the north arm...he had to walk around some holes in the ice to do it, the ice is pretty rotten looking in that area..."  Ranger Troy Hamon also provided a picture   of the area with another later 2017.04.20 comment "This was the view today...still a world of ice out there..."

On 2017.04.20 at 21:57 Alaska time, KNP&P commented: "No individual bears have been identified yet, though a few family groups were spotted by plane today as maintenance crews flew into Brooks Camp."

May 2017:[]

2017.05.19 - 284 observed with 2 yearlings.

2017.05.23 - Unidentified bear observed, sex unknown.  On 06/02/2017 Ranger David Kopshever commented that on 05/23/2017 Ranger Tammy Carmack observed and photographed an unidentified bear.  Ranger Tammy Carmack allowed Ranger David Kopshever to share the following photographs:  Ranger Tammy's photograph 01 , Ranger Tammy's photograph 02 , and Ranger Tammy's photograph 03 .

2017.05.25 - 151 Walker possibly observed - A bear that is believed to be possibly 151 Walker was observed per Ranger David Kopshever's 06/01/2017 comment .  Ranger David Kopshever also shared this photograph that he had taken on 05/25/2017  and this photograph that he had also taken on 05/25/2017 .  As Ranger David Kopshever continued the 06/01/2017 comment chat, discussion of the likely ID being 151 was discussed .  On 06/02/2017 KNP&P posted to their facebook page about this bear being observed on 05/25/2017 and shared the two photographs by Ranger David Kopshever that can be viewed here for the 1st photograph by Ranger David Kopshever and here for the 2nd photograph by Ranger David Kopshever .

2017.05.26 - 32 Chunk observed.  On 06/02/2017 Ranger David Kopshever commented that 32 Chunk had been observed on 05/26/2017 (correct date observed) near the Valley Road housing area.  Ranger Tammy Carmack allowed Ranger David to share these photographs of 32 Chunk:  Ranger Tammy photograph 01Ranger Tammy photograph 02, and Ranger Tammy photograph 03

2017.05.26 - 2017.05.28 - 153 possibly observed - A courting couple was observed per Ranger David Kopshever's 06/01/2017 comment and this photograph is provided courtesy of Ranger Russ Taylor  .  ""This courting couple was seen on Lake Brooks over the weekend. The female appears to be of #153. Their mating season may have evolved to occur during this time because of food scarcity in spring. This way, they can spend as much time as possible eating when food resources become more abundant during July through October."

June 2017:[]

2017.06.07 - 128 Grazer with 3 yearlings.  KNP&P shared the exciting news that 128 Grazer's family group returned to Brooks Camp in their 06/08/2017 Facebook post that included these two photographs (unable to provide credit to the photographer as it was not listed on the KNP&P FB post) Photograph #1 of 128 Grazer with 3 yearlings  , and Photograph #2 of 128 Grazer with 3 yearlings  .  KNP&P also took to Twitter to tweet  the news of the 128 Grazer family group and shared this photograph of 128 Grazer with her 3 yearlings .
