Subadult Leaps Off the Lip of Brooks Falls (Far Side), August 14, 2020:[]
Scooch created these videos of a subadult leaping off the lip of Brooks Falls on August 14, 2020 (p 08/14/2020 23:51 ):
"Sub makes 3 leaps off the lip * There was a tough young sub fishing on the lip earlier when Grazer showed up with her cubs. She lightly grazered the sub a few times in an attempt to make him leave. He was not intimidated (!) but eventually grew tired of not being able to occupy the fish snagging sweet spot so he moved to the lip on the far side of the falls. Very few fish were jumping and you could sense through his wild and exaggerated movements that he was becoming frustrated. After 15 minutes of no luck he decided to change his technique. No more waiting for the fish to come to him, he'll go after the fish! Driven by hunger, he leapt off the falls into the office area, caught a fish and quickly took it up the far hill to eat in private. (that extraordinary leap was caught on the riffles cam but not the falls cam) Minutes later he returned to the far lip, jumped in the office, caught a fish and proceeded to climb back up the falls and the far river bank with his catch. A short while later he returned and once again jumped into the office even though 151 Walker was nearby. He snorkled and pounced at fish for a couple of minutes but was unsuccessful. Walker eventually caught a fish which frightened the sub away. No need to worry though, our hungry little sub just happened upon a fish that he took with him as he was leaving.
Goodnight, friends! SBDzzz

Good Morning Bear Peeps what a great day yesterday. Although we had 128 Grazer and cubs on the lip I think a little dark subadult stole the show. From refusing to leave the lip when grazered a few times to jumping off the lip in the far pool to catch salmon, this little sub was great! Here are the bears that were seen: 151 Walker, 747, 273 and 3 yearlings, 909, 902, 812, 821, 801, 480 Otis, 32 Chunk, 18, 28 Grazer and 2 Coy, a few other subadults and unknown bears.
Here are some video highlights of the day:
