2020.07.13: On 7/13/2020 what appeared to be a ? female unknown sow came down to the river edge behind 480 Otis and gingerly grabbed some scraps to eat. 480 Otis did not appear concerned at all, video by Lani H. Some thought it might be 289.Mike Fitz was not able to recognize the bear.

2020.07.04: Late in the evening of 7/4/2020 (approximately 10:49 AKDT) an unknown boar appeared at Brooks Falls. The boar was medium-sized with a lighter, blocky muzzle, round ears and had 2 small scars on the right side of his face, 7/4/2020 video by mckate.The boar scampered around catching fish near the island. Mckate: "I left this long so that we could get a good look at him running around like he was new to the falls."

2020.7.06: On the evening of 7/6/2020, an unknown boar arrived at Brooks Falls and proceeded to put on a dominance display. He seemed to be agitated, was frothing a bit at the mouth, was cowboy walking, scent marking and approached 83 Wayne Brother who basically ignored him, 7/6/2020 video by mckate.
Mike Fitz was asked about the unknown boar during a 7/7/2020 text chat and had 2 replies, #1 and #2.
#1: "I didn't recognize him. I suspect he's a bear who is new to the river or if he has experience here, he wasn't around much at all last summer."
#2: "That is possible. I think it is more likely he was trying to establish his place in the hierarchy. We see sometimes male bears behave like that when they first arrive at the falls. Scent marking and posturing are two ways they can do that without engaging other bears physically. He seemed to want to challenge 83, but 83 just ignored him."

Unknown male or 911?[]
911 was described by Mike Fitz in 2018 as an adult male with short, light brown fur, bald shed patches and a pit bull-like face. Upon close inspection of his face, Rangers noticed that this bear has peculiar looking nostrils. The nostrils appear to have been injured and healed. See 911's Wikipedia Bear Book page.

"DNB" (damaged nose bear) , also seen in 2014, 2016, 2017, 2018. This Bear was classified and given bear ID # 299 in 2021.[]
This male bear has been seen over multiple seasons He usually appears in the fall and does not appear to be habituated to human presence. He has been described in multiple ways, has deformed/scarred nostrils with a left shoulder scar, split deformed nose/scarred nostrils, wide muzzle/damaged nose. 451 was not observed in on the cams in 2019. 451 might have been observed by Ranger Leslie in July, 2019. Katmai Conservancy Ranger Naomi Boak commented on 451. "Don't worry. I spoke directly to Ranger Leslie after you asked about 39 and 451. She confirmed 451 but said she could not confirm 39."

2020.07.02: On the evening of July 2, 2020 a sow with 3 spring cubs first appeared on the spit. The sow has a long muzzle, appears like an older sow, body color appears dark blonde with darker fur around the head and roundish, dark upright ears. 2 of the 3 spring cubs appear to have prominent natal collars, 7/2/2020 video by Lani H. Could this be 900 or 803? 900 has a small round scar on her right hip. A closer look at the sow may help in identification.

2020.06.28: On 6/28/2020 a thin blonde sow with 1 spring cub (no natal collar observed) and long legs was observed at the corner of the spit road. The sow looked young, had blonde upright round ears, a small hump, roundish face, slight upturned muzzle and the lower legs were dark. The sow also had a circular shed patch on her forehead. Occasionally a horizontal line is noticed across her forehead between her ears. Lani H captured this 6/28/2020 video.

On 7/2/2020 Ranger Naomi Boak confirmed that this sow with two 2.5 year old cubs is in fact 505. "I LOVE BEARS! A little birdie (aka a bear tech) who saw this family group up close confirms that YES! 505 is back with her two cubs. Bears are just amazing. This news made my day. Sorry no pics."

The sow has a distinct resemblance to 39. 39 was last officially seen in July 2018 and possibly on 8/4/2018 during a play-by-play (at 1:03:34, video by Brenda D).
39 was not believed to have been seen in 2019. 39 does not appear on the official list of bears observed in 2019. A sow with 2 spring cubs was observed on the lower river 10/6/2019 and bore a resemblance to 39, video by mckate.
