This unidentified bear is believed to be a sow . She(?) was only observed on July 27, 2019 & July 28, 2019. There is no known video of this sow; it is believed that only snapshots are available. Cam viewers were not able to provide any additional information or snapshots on January 4, 2020 or January 5, 2020 when the bearcam comments celebrated unidentified bear days.

Mckate described this unidentified bear : That's the shy little mane bear who we usually only see in late evening or early morning in July.
Mckate also shared this information : "I know that he was also around in 2018 . I don't know before that. I would guess that he's an adult because 856 and 747 both give him a hard time. I have more videos of him , if you'd like to see them. 503 tried to befriend him and brought him out of his shell a bit this past season. "

18 "Humphrey" 2019 Unidentified Adult Male (Update, this bear has been identified as 18 ):[]
Update June 19, 2020 13:08 : This bear was observed by KNP&P staff during official 2019 bear monitoring sessions and assigned bear monitoring number 18. He and his extremely large hump have earned him his very own wiki page that is currently under construction. On July 27, 2019 an unidentified adult male arrived at the falls. This bear was noted to have a very large hump, light facial fur, a rounded forehead and a possible small scar in front of his right ear. He also had prominent superficial veins noted on both sides of his abdomen.
"Humphrey" was rookie of the year in the 2019 season . It was fun to have a new bear show up who was unfamiliar with the Brooks Falls or the hierarchy and watch him try to figure it all out. A good example of that was on his first night at the falls when he met 747, "Humphrey" didn't seem overly impressed with 747's 'greeting', he just stepped in front of him, leapt into the jacuzzi, immediately caught and ate a salmon, then calmly walked away - while 747 sat there glaring at Hump in surprise, anger or disbelief like 'Did that seriously just happen?' - Humphrey was a unique looking, quirky, entertaining bear,

On May 25, 2019 at 12:30, Mike Fitz commented about the above May 24, 2019 photos by Jordan Nelson.:
"I don't know who it is, but I'm confident it is not 747 or 32 Chunk. The bear is not big enough, the fur is too light, and the head is smaller than either of those bears. The muzzle is not blocky like 747's and its ears are too round. 747 has more peg-like ears. Chunk has a two-toned appearance in the spring and a characteristically big butt. I see neither trait in this bear. The bicycle wheels in the background of the second photo offer a good estimate on his height. Both 747 and Chunk are much taller at the shoulder than this bear. If this is a male bear, I'd say it's probably a younger male, not yet fully grown."

"Thanks for weighing in Mike. I should have noticed the bicycles for size comparison. After the 2018 salmon season, I would expect 747 especially, but also 32 to be very fat still for May bears. I didn't see anyone else in the bear book that I thought this could be. I'll go back and look through the younger males...but we don't have that many of them these days. So perhaps a transient or a returning youngster?"
To which, Mike Fitz replied on May 25, 2019 at 18:51 :
"Since the bear looked to be grazing on grass near the buildings in Brooks Camp, then it probably is at least somewhat habituated to people, which leads me to believe it's probably a bear who's experienced Brooks Camp before."
"Good observation. Is it worth looking for sows? It reads 'boar' to me...but I have nothing concrete to base that on."
To which, Mike replied on May 25, 2019 at 19:41.:
"I can't see anything in the photos that would help determine the bear's sex, so yeah, I would look at photos of female bears if you are trying to ID it."

"The first time I saw pics of this sow my instincts screamed 500/Indy.....they still do. :)) This is a NPS pic from 2016 of 500/Indy . The highlight and lowlights of their coats have very similar patterns. The head/ears are so similar to 409/Beadnose. Both the NPS photo and Lovethebears’ first photo show a dark patch/scar behind the right shoulder. Has she officially been ruled out as a candidate?" (p 01/28/2020 10:08 )

Mckate thought the bear could be an unidentified male subadult called "Scrappy" by chatters. The photos appear to be Scrappy. It was also noted by Mazey that this bear has a dark, vertical mark or indentation between and just below his eyes. Mckate posted a 9/13/2019 video of Scrappy above "Scrappy waits for leftovers" that appears to be the same bear. The vertical line below and between the eyes is noted.

GRU posted this photograph of a subadult on the lip (p 01/04/2020 12:08 ). GRU stated "Who is he?", but we are not certain that is a confirmed sex of this subadult. GRU captured this photograph on "08/09/2019", but there was some uncertainty as to if the date was in American format . There was some discussion between cam viewers that this subadult could possibly be 821, but additional information and photographs would be helpful with determining an ID.
Izzy52 posted this photograph of 3 subadults together that was taken on presumably the same day (p 01/04/2020 15:07 ). Izzy52 believed one of the subadults in her photograph was the same subadult in GRU's photograph and that the other two subadults were 909 & 910.
