Birgitt commented that 831 has a pointy face and no personal space bubbles. (see snip of 01/04/2020 11:14 comment in DIstinctive Behaviors section below).

McKate commented about this distinctive behavior that 821 and sibling 831 share.: "They also both have that funny mannerism where they stand up and kind of jerk their head back and then turn. 831 does it more than 821."
Deelynnd shared these helpful distinctive behavior tips that help her ID 831: "831 Salt has a few behaviors that help me to ID her: 1. She likes to stand a lot, 2. When she stands, she holds her paws dropping in front of her, and 3. She often backs up off of land into water, stepping down backwards"

2015.09.24: An unidentified sow with 3 spring cubs is observed during a Ranger Mike and Roy play by play on 9/24/15 (55:30-1:05:00). At that time, the sow could not be identified but was determined to be 504 in the fall of 2016.

One cub is dark, the other two are lighter colored. 821 and 831 are believed to be 2 of those offspring. Note: From 2:27-4:46 an unknown bear is observed inspecting the deceased body of male 868 who had died on the spit.

2016.08.21: On 8/21/2016 a dark sow with 2 yearlings was observed at Brooks Falls. The sow is seen using the pouncing method of catching salmon with moderate success. The unidentified sow took advantage of a time when there were no other bears seen at the falls and fish were available in the far pool. Video by Mickey Williams.

2019.07.30: 909 plays with 435 Holly's recently emancipated 2.5 year-old subadults while 831 eats on the spit video by mckate. 435 Holly's girls (lightest and darkest subs) are a force to be reckoned with. They are a year younger than 909 and two years younger than 831, but are almost as large.:
Modern Day Explorer captured multiple photos of 831 on 7/30/2019. 821 (darker with a right hip scar) and 831 (lighter with a left rear leg scar) appear to be the 2 bears that are play fighting in the 13 photos. 831 is speculated to be 821's female sibling. Why 831 "Salt" Does Not Have An Official Nickname:[]
831 does not have an official nickname. KNP&P has moved away from officially nicknaming the bears that use the Brooks River.
831 "Salt" was referred to as "Salt" from the time she was a dependent cub with 504 and her darker littermate, 821 "Pepper". 504's 2015 offspring (831 & 821) had two very different colored coats, so Ranger David Kopshever and cam viewers used "Salt" to describe 504's blonder/lighter cub (831) and "Pepper to describe 504's darker cub (821).
