Year First Identified: 2018 as an independent 2.5 year-old subadult, 2016 year of birth
Year Last Observed: 2023
Known Offspring Of: There is speculation in the 2018 bear monitoring notes that 903 is the larger blonder, male, offspring of 128 Grazer's 2016 litter , however there is no way to really confirm the link between subadults to the mother and siblings without DNA results.
Genetics Study Samples Obtained: There were no known genetics study samples obtained from 902 by Ranger Michael Saxton from 2016 through 2018.

903 was initially observed as a 2.5 year-old newly identified subadult during the 2018 season. Mckate's ID Tips: 903 is one of those rare bears who remains blonde throughout the season. He just darkens from light to medium blonde as the season progresses. He is blonder on his head and has white ears. He has long 'bangs' and eyebrows and a straight deep muzzle. In the fall he develops a bear hat or helmet.

In July, August and September of 2020, 903 could be seen on the cams most often at the falls. Starting in October of 2020, 903 began chasing and eating gulls on the lower river. This gull eating behavior had not been observed before.

903 is believed to be the larger blonder male offspring of 128 Grazer's first known litter of 3 spring cubs. 902 "Fifi" / "Bonsai" (a female) is believed to be one of 903's littermates from that 128 litter.

2016.06.18: On the morning of June 18, 2016, 128 Grazer and her 1st known litter of 3 spring cubs were observed walking along the Valley Road. 2016.09.??: Brooks Camp visitor Brian Lashchuk captured this wonderful video of 128 Grazer and her 3 spring cubs in September of 2016. Brian usually visits Brooks Camp in September so it is assumed that the video is from that month. The smallest blonde cub is now 902, the larger blonde cub is now 903, the darkest cub did not receive a number from the Rangers and is not believed to have been seen by them. Some chatters believe he may have been observed in years after emancipation.
2016.09.16: Cam viewer and Brooks Camp visitor Lisa Robertson (aka Larinor) shared a photo of 128 Grazer and 1 of her 3 spring cubs. "Grazer and one of her 2016 cubs. Photo was taken by me on 9/17/16." Lisa Robertson (aka Larinor) shared a photo of 128 Grazer and her 3 spring cubs. "Grazer and gang were napping just feet off of the falls trail on 9/17/16. That's Grazer's ear about 1/3 of the way down on the right side. The 3rd cub was using her as a pillow. Photo was taken by me (from at least 50 yds away)." 128 Grazer was initially observed in May 2018 with all three 2.5 year-old offspring from her 2016 litter. On May 20, 2018 128 Grazer was observed with two of the three 2.5 year-old offspring after partial emancipation; the larger darker male 2.5 year-old was no longer with the rest of the family group.
Two of the three offspring from 128 Grazer's 2016 litter were observed three times during official bear monitoring sessons, classified as 2.5 year-old independent subadults, and assigned their bear monitoring numbers. The larger darker male 2.5 year-old was observed as an independent subadult during the 2018 season but not enoug times to be assigned a bear monitoring number. On August 8, 2019 a 2018 NPS photo of subadult 903 by T. Carmack was shared in the chat via Katmai Conservancy Ranger Naomi Boak. It is unclear whether the photo was taken in July or the fall of 2018.

"The first day (10/22/2018 ) was a bit overcast. The very first bear I saw was resting on the spit. That bear turned out to be 128's middle cub, the blondish one (This bear will be 903, full list to follow). The next bear I saw swimming upstream of the bridge looking for salmon was 879. Then looking across at the corner who should show up but 94 with her three (yes, photographs will follow, but that will take a little time) Then just behind the platform comes 402 x4. One of 94s little ones then got on the bridge, corner side. Then looking over at the spit, here comes 717. Then Holly and her two put in an appearance on the closed trail. Next on the closed trail was 909 and 910. I love that one of 409's cubs (the blonder one will be known as 909, the darker one 910). Those were my sightings the very first afternoon."

2020: 4.5 Year-Old Subadult Male[]
In July, August and September of 2020, a light faced subadult could be seen on the cams most often at the falls. Starting in October of 2020, this subadult began chasing and eating gulls on the lower river. This gull eating behavior had not been observed before. Bear cam viewers gave this subadult the unofficial nickname "Gully." Some chatters thought that this subadult resembled male subadult 903, a 2016 offspring of 128 Grazer. As it turns out, they were correct! On 6/14/2021 Mike Fitz confirmed that the gull eating subadult seen in 2020 was 903 during a live chat (17:05-17:29), video by Explore.

2021.06.04: Ranger Naomi Boak stopped in chat on 6/5/2021 and posted three photos of a subadult at the picnic area, #1,#2 and #3.Ranger Naomi commented "Wow. A lot of impatience here. Well, I am with you. Looking forward to cams and bears and more bears. Ranger Nick and I saw our first bear fishing in the lower river yesterday. There are a handful of salmon and a few trout." In answer to a question if this subadult was keeping an eye out for birds, (in reference to the gull eating bear from last year) Ranger Naomi answered "You might be right. He/she did dive a bit." A number of chatters believe this may possibly be "Gully." Some chatters think "Gully" may be 903. Mike Fitz confirmed that the gull eating subadult seen in 2020 was 903 during a 6/14/2021 live chat. Note: 903 is now considered an adult male in 2021. His sibling 902 was given that designation in the 2021 Bears of Brooks River eBook, page 55.

2021.07.04: This young bear sitting below the falls platform on 7/4/2021 is believed to be 903, video by mckate. "Some said 901, but I don't think that's her. ETA: Saw chat photos that point to this being 903." Note, you can see the same shed patch/scar? on the right side as seen in Ranger Naomi's 6/4/2021 photos above. 2021.07.06: 903 (on the left) was observed on the lower river on 7/6/2021, video by mckate. He was playing with either 27 or 831. The dark spot on his right side can be seen. "I think this might be 903. (Mazey caught his splotch.) I think she was trying to tell him not to be so rough, although if this is 831 she put up with worse from her brother."
