Adult Female
Year First Observed: 2020 as an independent 2.5 year-old subadult, 2018 year of birth.
Last Year Observed: 2023
Offspring Of: The Bears of Brooks River 2021 eBook identifies 131 as the offspring of 482 Brett. That information is noted on page 32 of the Bears of Brooks River 2021 eBook under 131's Bear Book entry. "#129, #131, and #133 are all offspring of #482 from the same litter. #131 is female." There is however no way to really confirm the link between subadults to the mother and siblings without DNA results.
Known Litters of Cubs: None as of 2023 Season
Genetics Study Samples Obtained: Unknown
Identification:[]
131 was initially observed as a 2.5 year-old newly identified subadult during the 2020 season. #131’s face is slightly darker than her coat and she has a slightly upturned muzzle. She has a very blond coat in early summer.
Mckate's ID Tips: 131 is easy to spot early in the season because she is as white as a lamb. She has a short upturned muzzle and dark button eyes. In the fall her coat darkens along her back and she sports a fluffy head and goatee. She can sometimes be hard to distinguish from her sister 133 in the fall, but she has the fluffier head and more of a frowny face.
Mckate's 131 YouTube playlist.
Distinctive Behaviors:[]
#129, #131, and #133 are all suspected offspring of #482 from the same litter. #131 is female. In July 2020, she was seen mostly with her siblings. In fall, she was slightly more independent though still occasionally seen with her siblings.
Mckate's Notes: 131 spent most of 2020, her year of emancipation, with her sisters. She arrived early in 2021 and was the first bear seen on the cams. She must have been discouraged by the late fish run, so ate a muskrat on the lower river and then departed for parts unknown in mid June. She wasn't seen again until her return in early September when she met up with her sis 129 a few times.

Comments from Terry that can be viewed at the shared link, "I'm on here very late today but wanted to add some pics of 131 Marshmallow that I took when I was there in July of 2020. They aren't very good as I was just so darn excited and I was using my phone. Not sure how many pics I can add in one post but here goes. There was a ranger above on the trail and my sister and I were just starting to go up the trail and we both backed down to the restrooms there. Marshmallow was trying to figure out where to go. She finally got down to the road there and, when we got back down from the other platforms, she was still there in the same area just sleeping on the side. We both waited and she finally went off into the woods. So amazing how calm she was."

2023.10.23: Sisters, 129 & 131, fish the cut bank in this video captured by mckate. This was so nice to see because these two have always been pretty close but were pretty chilly towards each other in early September. Good to see that maybe they are enjoying each other's company again.:
Why 131 Does Not Have an Official Nickname:[]
131 does not have an official nickname. KNP&P has moved away from officially nicknaming the bears.
131 has been called "Marshmallow' by cam viewers since she was a spring cub and the color of her fur looked like a roasted marshmallow. Note: This is not an official nickname and not used by NPS.
