Mckate's ID Tips: This young boar was first identified by NPS staff in 2019 although he is not new to Brooks. He and his brothers, 912 and 913, were born to 39 in 2016.
99 has a narrow, upturned muzzle, long oval ears, and a obvious natal collar. He starts the season blonde, but by mid-July is a tawny color. By August his head and legs are dark brown, while his body color is a little lighter.
Distinctive Behaviors:[]
Per mckate: 99 is seen on the cams in July and September, often with his brothers. His favorite fishing spot is the falls where he sometimes fishes the lip. He also infrequently fishes the riffles and lower river. He is an amiable fellow and bit of a mooch, politely hitting up others for a share of the their fish. In 2020 his playmates included his brothers 912 and 913, 602, 812, 907, Red, Vincent and an initially reluctant 902.

2018.??.??: Before You Die Guy captured video of 39's 3 emancipated cubs sitting under the Brooks Falls platform early in the 2018 season.They are seen briefy from 2:21-2:24. Two of these cubs (912 and 913) were seen 3 times by the bear monitor and were classified as independent subadults in 2018.

2018.07.20 - 2018.07.23: Park visitor and cam viewer, Lynne Lewis captured these photos (#1 & #2 ) of 39's 2.5 year-old emancipated subadults during her July 20 - 23, 2018 trip to Brooks Camp. 99, 912 & 913 are speculated to be these three 2.5 year-old subadults.

99 was initially observed during the 2019 season. 99 is speculated to be the 3rd male spring cub from 39's 2016 litter. That cub had a distinct natal collar both in 2016, 2017 and 2018 as a newly emancipated 2.5 year old. 99 still shows natal collar remnants early in the season and has been observed playing with both 912 and 913. Ranger Naomi Boak shared this newly identified bear's monitoring number with cam viewers on June 19, 20020 in her 13:08 comment :
