Known Offspring Of: There is speculation in the 2018 bear monitoring notes that 913 "Moomba" is an offspring of 39's 2016 litter , however there is no way to really confirm the link between subadults to the mother and siblings without DNA results.
Genetics Study Samples Obtained: There were no known genetics study samples obtained from 913 by Ranger Michael Saxton from 2016 through 2018.
Identification:[]
Mckate's ID Tips: 913 is the largest of the three 39 brothers. Early in the season 913 is blonde with a red head. By August he has darkened into a light brown and has a light cinch mark on his side. He also retains a bit of blonde on top of his head and on his ear tips. 913 has a broad forehead and large round ears. Like his brother, 912, he has a long, narrow slightly Roman muzzle. His, however, turns up slightly at the end. Throughout July he can be identified by the five round scars on his right hip that form a smiley face. By August, usually only one of these scars will be visible.

Mckate's Notes: While all three of 39's boys fish the lip, 913 is probably the most dedicated. But he can also be found fishing the riffles and socializing on the lower river.

Before You Die Guy captured video of 39's 3 emancipated cubs sitting under the Brooks Falls platform early in the 2018 season.They are seen briefy from 2:21-2:24. Two of these cubs were seen 3 times by the bear monitor and were classified as independent subadults in 2018.

913 "Moomba" was observed 3 or more times during Fall 2018 official bear monitoring sessions, classified as a 2.5 year-old male subadult, and assigned the bear monitoring number 913. Bear monitoring staff speculate that 913 is a 2016 offspring of 39, but the sex of this subadult in unknown.

You can see that 912 has more of a Roman nose which is quite narrow. 913's muzzle is deeper, and he also has larger and fluffier ears. As for coloring, 913 is beginning to darken like his brother, but has what I call a light saddle cinch mark on his side. That mark is the easiest way to ID him this time of year."

"913 really wanted his brother's spot and had been 'asking' for it for some time. 99 looked like he was finally going to relinquish it, but instead took advantage of 913's vulnerable position to jump him. 913 seemed more than a little shocked that his less dominant brother would do this to him. He waited until 99 had left with his fish before stepping back up onto the lip."

2023.07.16: Four boars vie for a fish accompanied by a spectating sow video captured by mckate. That was 28 "E" with the catch. 913 "Moomba" grabbed half of it, and 151 Walker came for it sending 913 over the lip. 32 Chunk got the half away from 913 in the jacuzzi. 151 ran down to see if he could grab it, but didn't want to mess with 32. At least 28E got to keep half of his catch. 17 (aka "505F") watched it all from the sidelines.:

2024.07.16: 913 was observed with a hip/leg injury; fernw created this gif (p 09:25). Despite his injury, 913 "Moomba" has been all over the place including climbing up and down the boulder at the falls. tzusruled created this gif of 913 "Moomba" bearing some weight on his injured leg/hip (p 10:25). Brown bears are resilient creatures capable of adapting to their injuries while healing from them. 89 Backpack, 469 "Digger"/"Patches" and 814 Lurch are a few examples of bears known to use the Brooks River that have overcome injuries and thrived. 634 Popeye is another bear known to use the Brooks River that was observed on this same day in 2017 with a similar injury, Melissa Freels captured this video of 634 in 2017. tzusruled also shared this gif of 913 "Moomba" from a different cam (p 10:27). It is not known how 913 "Moomba" sustained this injury.:
99 and 503 Cubadult wrestle in mckate's video. It's been three years since mckate has caught 503 playing! mckate loves the attempted sneaky move from the rock which is classic 503. mckate's not sure 99 was fooled though. Poor 913 "Moomba" had to watch from the sidelines because of his injury.:

2024.07.17: 913 "Moomba" can be observed limping in a video posted on Instagram by David Colson/politico101 (click right to the last segment of the post to see the video of 913 "Moomba"). As a bonus, you will also get to see 128 Grazer nursing her 2 spring cubs, and another chunky bear resting on the bank.
913 "Moomba" was bearing more weight on his injured left rear leg/hip; Blair-55 created these gifs (#1 & #2) (p 18:11).:
