Mckate's ID Tips: 212 is a young adult with a long straight muzzle, close set eyes, and small to medium ears. His fur is pretty solidly light brown and he has a semi-prominent hump. His most notable feature is a shaggy head and attractive beard.

Mckate's Notes: 212 was first identified by NPS staff in 2021, but made his first appearance on the cams in October of 2020. (I believe he may initially have been the sub identified by NPS staff as 14 in 2019.) His sex was finally caught on the cams in 2022. His parentage is unknown. 212 appears to be a late summer and fall bear.
There is some thought amongst chatters that 212 could be the fall version of 138. In 2020 he was seen fishing on all parts of the river, but didn't show much interest in other subs beyond greeting and smelling 902, and chasing off 131. In 2021 he seemed to stick to the falls and didn't appear interested in interacting with other bears. In 2022 he spent a good deal of time on the lower river.

2022.09.16: Olatz Azcona Munárriz shared a 9/16/2022 photo of 212 on 2/5/2023. "212. September 16, 2022. Another young bear that I was not able to recognize while I was at Brooks. We saw him when we stood on the river bank bellow the riffles with a guide, the afternoon of my fourth day trip to Brooks River." Olatz shared a 9/16/2022 photo of 212 on 3/26/2023. "212 was one of the bears that showed up below the riffles when we hung out on the river bank with a guide, the afternoon of my fourth day trip to Brooks River. I was not able to identify him when I first saw him, and I don´t have much about him on my notes, but I remember 903 was behind him looking also for salmon. 212 was the first to score, but 903 did the same shortly after."

Why 212 Does Not Have an Official Nickname:[]
212 does not have an official nickname. The NPS has moved away from officially naming bears at KNP&P.
While waiting for an official ID number, 212 was referred to as "Bobby" by bear cam viewers. This is not an official nickname, it was simply a "placeholder" that was used until the bear monitoring number was assigned and released to cam viewers/wiki users.
