20 was initially identified during the 2019 season. Mckate's ID Tips: 20 has a roman nose and round, white tipped ears. His coat is reddish brown and he sports a mane and long hair on his underside. This is why he was known as Mane Bear by bear cam chatters. 20 also has round scars on his right hip and in the middle of his forehead. Mckate's 20 YouTube Channel.
Distinctive Behaviors:[]
Mckate's Notes: In 2018 he began appearing at the falls after midnight when he usually had the place to himself. In 2019 he seemed to grow more confident and would show up a little earlier to fish the spot by the falls log. Not long afterwards he was befriended by 503. He also counts 807 among his friends.
In 2020, when there were few humans at Brooks, he was seen courting sows on the lower river. This suggests that his late night fishing might be about human aversion as much as fearfulness of other boars.
In 2021, perhaps because of the late fish run, we didn't see a great deal of 20. He appeared off and on for about a week looking more mature and less shaggy than he had in previous years. He made a couple of attempts to fish the lip without much luck and didn't play with other young males like he had in the past.

Mckate's Notes: 20 is a small to medium adult male who was first noticed on the cams in 2018 and received his number in 2019. He is an early season bear showing up in late June through mid-July.

How 20 Got His Nickname:[]
20 does not have an official nickname. The NPS has moved away from naming bears at KNP&P. While waiting for an official ID number, 20 was referred to as "Mane Bear" and "Shaggy" by bear cam viewers. 20 received this chatter nickname due to the shaggy fur hanging from his neck. This is not an official nickname.
