2019 Season: On July 27, 2019 this unidentified adult male arrived at the falls. This bear was noted to have a very large hump, light facial fur, a rounded forehead and a possible small scar in front of his right ear. He also had prominent superficial veins noted on both sides of his abdomen. KNP&P bear monitoring staff also observed, initially classified, and assigned this boar bear monitoring number 18. Cheryl B captured video of 18 on August 9, 2019 where it appears that 18 has white claws.:

2019 Season: 18 "Humphrey" was rookie of the year in the 2019 season . It was fun to have a new bear show up who was unfamiliar with the Brooks Falls or the hierarchy and watch him try to figure it all out. A good example of that was on his first night at the falls when he met 747, 18 "Humphrey" didn't seem overly impressed with 747's 'greeting', he just stepped in front of him, leapt into the jacuzzi, immediately caught and ate a salmon, then calmly walked away - while 747 sat there glaring at 18 "Hump" in surprise, anger or disbelief like 'Did that seriously just happen?' - 18 Humphrey was a unique looking, quirky, entertaining bear in 2019,

2021.09.21: 18 returned to Brooks Camp on 9/21/2021, video by JG. 18 appears to have an injured lower jaw. It is unknown how this occurred. Generally, bears receive these type of injuries from fighting although 18 did not appear to have any wounds. 18 was most often observed on the infrared brooks falls cams. Was this due to his injury and less bears/less competition at the falls at night?

taylorthomasalbright posted these 5 photographs of 18 "Humphrey" on November 17, 2023 (click the arrow to scroll through all 5 images). These images provide a close-up look at the lower jaw/teeth injury that 18 "Humphrey" sustained in 2021 (or prior). We do not know when 18 "Humphrey" suffered this injury, we only know that when he was last observed in August 2020 he did not appear to have this injury, but when he returned to the Brooks River in September 2021 he did have the lower jaw injury.
