ID info from Ranger Tammy Carmack's bear monitoring notes: 148 has a blonde coat, triangular shaped face and wide spaced ears. We are awaiting more information from the Rangers.
ID info from mckate's playlist: 148 is an older blonde sow with a saggy belly, wide set white tipped ears, heavy bangs, and a long blocky muzzle.

148 likes to fish the near pool below Brooks Falls. She has also been observed on the lip and in the riffles. 148 has been observed pirating fish from other sows (17), including sows with cubs (910 with her large 2.5 year-old biological cub and 3.5 year-old adopted niece).

2023.07.24: 148 makes 17 nervous in this video mckate captured. This is the older sow who has been hanging out by the near pool for a few days. mckate kept hoping we'd get a better look and got her wish. We still have no idea who she might be. 17 clearly doesn't know who she is either. UPDATE: In September of 2024, thanks to Amy Incillo working with Ranger Tammy Carmack, KNP&P's Bear Monitor, to identify a bear Amy photographed at Brooks Camp on July 9, 2024 and July 10, 2024, we now know that this older sow is bear 148. Ranger Tammy Carmack, KNP&P's Bear Monitor said that she had not seen 148 for several years, but after comparing the bear in Amy Incillo's photographs below with other photographs that Ranger Tammy Carmack has of 148, she felt confident that the bear in Amy's photographs was 148. We do not know if Ranger Tammy Carmack observed 148 the required number of times during official 2024 Bear Monitoring Sessions for 148 to earn a place on the 2024 Official Bear Monitoring List. Ranger Tammy Carmack typically releases her official bear monitoring list sometime after the close of the season.
In October 2024, Ranger Tammy Carmack released her 2024 Official Bear Monitoring List and 148 was officially observed 3 times or more in July 2024.

2024.07.23: 148 successfully pirated from 17, and then tried for 910's fish. 148 didn't count on having to deal with 910's female bodyguards (2.5 year-old biological cub, aka "910 Jr" & 3.5 year-old adopted niece, aka "909 Jr"), so 148 soon left the lip in this video by mckate.:

How 148 Got Their Nickname:[]
148 does not have an official nickname. The NPS has moved away from naming bears at KNP&P.
During the summer of the 2024 season, before cam viewers and park visitors knew the identity of this sow, "N" and "fake 261" were used as "placeholder nicknames". These temporary placeholders are not official nicknames. KNP&P's Bear Monitor, Ranger Tammy Carmack shared the bear monitoring number assigned to this sow as 148 by identifying 148 in early season photographs taken by Amy Incillo (aka NWBearLove92).

Little was known to us about bear 148 since she was initially identified in July 2020 and her bear monitoring number was assigned. We had one NPS photograph of 148 from July of 2020 and a brief description to aid in identifying this older sow from 2020 until September of 2024. In July of 2024, Amy Incillo (aka NWBearLove92) captured photographs of an unfamiliar sow at Brooks Camp on July 9, 2024 and July 10, 2024. Amy enlisted the help of KNP&P's Bear Monitor, Ranger Tammy Carmack, to attempt to identify the sow in her photographs. In September 2024 after some research using other photographs available to her, Ranger Tammy Carmack got back to Amy to let her know that the sow in her July 2024 photographs was 148. Amy shared her July 2024 photographs and the information from Ranger Tammy Carmack with Mazey and LTC so it could be shared on 148's wiki page. Mazey also reached out to mckate, mckate immediately knew who 148 was and quickly got to work updating "Somebear's" playlist to reflect the discovery of 148's identification number.
